Bird Island offers tranquil retreat in the lap of nature
Naresh Chauhan | Jan 28 2009

Isolated prefabs in the lap of nature may offer a tranquil retreat but such indulgence of the human beings have also posed some serious threats to the natural surroundings. International Firm Graft Architects has come up with an innovative architectural project, the ‘Bird Island,’ that will provide peaceful dwellings to the residents without interfering with the landscape. Designed for the Bird Island Green Home Competition held by the YTL Group, the ‘Bird Island’ is an urban renewal development project to be located in Sentul Park, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Finished with a silicone covered glass fabric, the structures will feature a flexible exterior, capable of changing its transparency, to complement the landscape of the Island. The structures, incorporating a water drainage system, will fulfill most of the water requirements by reusing the gray water. While the tent structure will reflect the direct heat of the sun, keeping the main structure cool and comfortable in hot summers. The Bird’s Island is gonna be a landmark project for futuristic prefabs, offering a serene and sustainable lifestyle for the dwellers as well as visitors to the Sentul Park.
